How The Nursery Is Structured

Each child who attends la Petite Academy is allocated to a group with its own key worker who is responsible for a small group of children of the same age group. Each key worker has a base room for her group and is assisted by other key workers/ nursery assistants. There is a daily plan of activities and topics which parents can freely view on the notice boards however you will be told each day when you collect your child a detailed description of how your child has eaten, slept, etc. and the activities they have taken part in or particularly been engaged in.

Baby Unit

Our baby unit has been specially modified to cater for the needs of babies. It has an area for play, space for crawling and even first steps, and a nappy changing area. There is a separate sleep room with 3 cots and a baby kitchen for sole use of the baby unit to prepare feeds. Plenty of love and cuddles are at the top of the agenda and the high ratio of staff to babies means your baby will be sure of lots of individual attention. Whilst there is a daily routine of feeding, sleep and play times, flexibility is uppermost, and your baby’s key worker will report back to you each evening on how your baby spent the day through their child’s home book which is used only as a supplement to the relationship between nursery staff and parents.

La Petite Academy

The baby unit is located in a separate ground level unit adjacent to the main nursery and has its own access. The babies are regularly taken into the gardens for fresh air and providing we have parental agreement are taken for walks off the premises in double buggies to the local park and duck pond to feed the ducks.

All the rooms in the main nursery are separated into age groups all of which have the name of a fruit, plus the room is decorated the same colour as the fruit. Children are moved to new groups within the nursery based on their individual readiness and development, and following consultation with parents, therefore not always on their chronological age.

Outdoor Play

We are fortunate to have two gardens at the nursery. One is a tarmac area where the children can ride bikes/cars etc. The other garden is a grassed area together with an outdoor activity area with slides and climbing apparatus based on a barked area for safety. In the summer we erect our gazebo where we have picnics in the shade. We also have a sand and water play area under cover. Different activities are planned for each day to encourage learning outdoors.
