As from September 2008, a new government framework for learning development and care will be introduced to all early years settings – The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework to support children’s learning, development and welfare from birth to five years of age. The EYFS is designed to provide the best possible start in life for all children by giving opportunities for learning within a safe and secure environment. The EYFS will mean that all providers of childcare, outside of the family home, will be subject to the same level of service provision, quality standards and Ofsted inspection.

For more information on The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) click here

Ofsted Our Ofsted report can be viewed via the Ofsted website, www.ofsted.gov.uk by entering the postcode of the nursery, DE23 1DG.

This stage in a child's education is still very much based on learning through play, and we will be ensuring that your child learns and progresses in all the 6 areas of learning of the Early Years Foundation Stage:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication, Language and Literacy
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Physical Development
Creative Development

The nursery receives regular teacher input from the Local Education Authority.

We regularly invite professionals to come and talk to pre-school relating to the topic. We have had visits from nurses, doctors, policemen, firemen, dentists all from the local community. Trips out of the nursery are organised for pre-school children. The children have visited travel agents, hairdressers, pet shops, we visited the local temple and church when we discussed festivals. We have taken the children to the bus and train stations and also the local canal, when we covered transport.

Trips out of the nursery are organised for pre-school children.

Once every month we are either visited by the mobile toy library or the children get the opportunity to go to the local library with their key workers to help them to gain a wider understanding of the local community.

Of course children learn through many different ways - the children have plenty of time during the day to go outside and access the outdoor activities and have free play times when they choose their favourite toys, take part in musical activities, access the 2 nursery computers or snuggle in close for a special story in our book corner.
