Dear Parents

We’d like to give a warm welcome to all the new children and parents who are starting with us over the next few weeks; It will be lovely to see the children settling into their rooms and enjoying the daily activities.

Over the summer the children have enjoyed taking part in the Olympic Day we held. The photographs can be found on the corridor display, along with some in your children’s Learning Journeys. On the day the children developed their gross motor skill with physical activities, we discussed how some children are good at some things and other children are good at other things, we even brought mathematics into the day by learning the different colours of the Olympic rings and the shape they are as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd through our podium positions.

Our Nursery Facilities
WOW, what a busy year we have had improving the facilities within the nursery! All of the main nursery base rooms have been freshly decorated with new flooring and storage units, along with the bathroom being completed with new flooring and the corridor with some brightly coloured tiles; we do hope you’re enjoying our new look!

Over the next couple of months, we will be setting to work in the Baby Unit where improvements to the layout and again a fresh revamp will be completed.

Again and in every newsletter I would like to remind parent/grandparents and anyone who picks children up from nursery that you MUST NOT let yourselves out of the nursery, please ask a member of staff. Can I also ask that you do not answer the door to anyone, even if it is our Tesco delivery! Let’s keep our little ones safe.

The installation of the CCTV cameras has now been completed in the Main Nursery and the Baby Unit; providing additional security for the nursery. I would again like to remind parents that the cameras are NOT linked to the internet and are solely viewed by the management team on a required basis.

Management Structure
There is always a Manager whether it is Myself, Claire or Sarah available between the hours of 8:30am and 5:30pm, if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us. Claire is happy to answer any of your invoice queries, change of sessions and your registration. Sarah can provide you with information about the quality of the provision, activities and your child’s Learning Journey etc.

Colder weather will be approaching…
Please remember to provide your child with suitable outdoor clothing. The children access the outdoor area a couple of times a day, whether it is raining or not. Daily fresh air benefits the children and encourages their learning. The weather will soon be cooling down so please provide your child with a suitable coat, along with a hat, gloves and scarf when required. We like all children to have a pair of wellies at nursery so they can go into our Sensory Garden and Mud Kitchen. Please don’t send your children in their best clothes; children should be able to explore the nursery environment without being restricted.

Learning Journeys
We hope you are enjoying your child’s Learning Journey. We send them out at the end of each month, however please remember you are welcome to view them at any time. The Learning Journeys need to be returned within one week to allow your child’s key Person and Co-Key Person to keep them up to date. Please contribute any information possible about your child in their home environment; this helps the Key Person to set next steps for your child. If you are not receiving your child’s Learning Journey on a regular basis, please contact a member of the Management Team.

Employee Recognition of the month
The Employee Recognition of the month award for August goes to Brittany Turner and also Candice Clarke. Both of whom received parent nominations for their work with children on potty training and settling children into their groups so quickly. You too can nominate a member of staff you feel deserves a special recognition award, just complete the attached slip and return it to the office.

Sherridanne and Kara have left to go on maternity leave we are awaiting news of their new arrivals and will keep you all updated as much as possible.

We have a new apprentice starting with us imminently, her name is Sayida Ambreen. Sayida will be completing her Childcare NVQ level 2 through Eurosource Training whilst working at the nursery. Sayida is extremely excited about joining the team and can’t wait to meet all the children.

30 Free Hour Entitlement
Across the country piloted areas will begin to receive the 30-hour free funding for childcare if parents meet the eligibility criteria. Earlier this year we asked some parents to complete and return a questionnaire from Derby City Council to help us determine how you as parents would require the funding to be structured. We have very few questionnaires returned and therefore are asking if you did not return your questionnaire please collect another copy from the nursery office should you wish your thoughts on the process to be considered. We as a setting have not as yet received any further information on the funding which will be implemented as from September 2017, however we will endeavour to keep you updated as the information is filtered through to us.

Thursday 29th September 2016- Disney Day
Each of the rooms will be concentrating on a Disney film of their choice. The rooms will be themed for the day along with all of the activities. We will be covering the seven areas of Learning and Development from the EYFS within the activities to encourage the children to progress in their development. We invite your child to take part on the day by dressing as a character from their themed room, or if your child has a particular favourite character from a Disney film they are welcome to come dressed as them.

Thursday 13th October-Jane Stapleton Photographer
Jane Stapleton Photography will be at the nursery from 8:00am, if you wish for your child to have their photograph taken with an older sibling who attends school, then please bring them in before 9:00am. If your child is in on the day, please advise your child’s key Person if you wish them to have their photograph taken. If your child isn’t in on the day and you want your child to have their photograph taken please speak with your child’s Key Person, for the appropriate allocated time slot for their group.

Monday 17th October 6:15pm-Open Evening
Come along for a chat with the Management Team and your child’s Key Person. There will be a presentation held by Myself, Sarah and Claire about the nursery, the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, and funding available to you and your child from the Government. We also have a Foundation Stage teacher, Mrs Hodgkinson from Ridgeway Infants School, talking about how to support your child in getting ready for school. We will hopefully have additional speakers at the evening providing guidance/ information around children and their health and welfare. These speakers are yet to be confirmed, but last year’s event was extremely successful.
If you would like to be a guest speaker or know someone who would, please contact the office. We have previously had a dentist talk about oral hygiene and this year we would like a nutritionist or dietician to raise parents’ awareness of healthy eating options. However, anything relating to children’s health and wellbeing will be welcome.
