Newsletter November 2018
7th November 2018
We’ve had quite a busy half term but there is still lots to come in the leading up to Christmas.
Firstly, I would like to thank all the parents who came to the Open Evening on Monday 13th October. We had some fabulous guest speakers who came in their own time to support the evening. We organised the evening as an additional service to give you the opportunity to access current information from professionals within the health and education sector.
Dr Law and (GP) gave a talk around what a child’s healthy balanced diet should look like, and lots of key tips to settling a child into a good balanced diet. It was fantastic to hear parents asking individual questions, a lot of parent’s heads were nodding in agreement when relevant questions were asked.
Heather Jeffery (Acting head of the Foundation Stage Curriculum at Ridgeway School) gave a talk around school readiness and what you can do to support your child.
I would like to also say a big thank you to all the key people who attended the event too to make themselves available to the parents. It is a long day for them but I know they like to give you the opportunity to meet with them as much as possible.
The structured sports sessions by Callum every Friday morning are becoming a big success. The children engage well with him learning new ball and movement skills. We will be looking at changing the day that the sessions run after half term, but all children are currently able to access the session due to our quieter period in Pre-school.
The Toddler children are engaging in their dance, music and drama sessions with Jeevan from Jeevan’s Dance Academy. Please watch out on our Facebook page for fantastic pictures/ videos of the children taking part. Again, this activity will change to a different day at the start of the new term.
Yoga for Tweenies
Keeping the 2-5-year olds busy with the activities above, it was suggested by the staff that it would be nice for the Tweenies to engage in an extra activity. Lizzie (Tweenies’ key person) suggested a Yoga session from a company called Mama Baby Bliss who has previously worked with at her last setting. Rose from Mama Baby Bliss came along to demonstrate a session with the Tweenies children which was fantastic to see them smiling and joining in with the moves and the singing. We will be looking at starting this in the January term, watch out for the additional letter to be sent out to you Tweenies parents.
Visits to the nursing home
In a previous letter, it was mentioned that some of the Preschool children would be visiting Lonsdale Nursing Home to take part in a Boogie Beats session with the residents. Myself and Lauren carried out an inspection visit and unfortunately, we felt the setting wasn’t appropriate for the children form La Petite Academy to visit. We will be visiting Cedar Care Home on Rowley Lane to see if this is more of an appropriate Setting and we will keep you updated.
1140 Free Hour Entitlement
Parents whose children are due to be eligible for funding for January 2019 YOU MUST start this process now! The deadline for the nursery to input your codes into the portal is Friday 28th December, therefore we need to implement a nursery deadline by 30th November 2018. It has taken several weeks for the website to process applications and some funding code have not been accessed until a few days before the deadline. If you are a parent who already has an 11-digit code, please remember to re-validate your code now. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Claire.
We hope you all have took the opportunity to give the nursery some feedback via our Questionnaires. We welcome ideas and suggestions about the nursery and hope you can make these suggestions feeling they will be taken into consideration. I will send out the results from the questionnaire very soon.
It is tradition for the nursery to close on Christmas and New Year’s Eve at 4.00pm. Due to the early closure a discount will be added to your December invoice to reflect the earlier closure time. Please note also that there will be no light tea provided on that day, but a larger snack selection will be available for the children at afternoon snack.
